The goal of these seminars is gaining knowledge of the "nuts and bolts" of art collecting. Participants will get a unique, behind-the-scenes experience of the Los Angeles art world, with access to private collectors' homes, visits to the studios of well-known and up-and-coming artists, and discussions with museum curators and gallery dealers.

The Do's and Don'ts of art collecting: the discipline of smart collecting vs. random accumulation based merely on an impulsive "I like it"

  • Learning about the LA art scene and its major players: artists, collectors, gallery owners, critics, and museum professionals

  • Negotiating a favorable deal with art dealers

  • Bringing art home: making sure it looks as good, if not better, as it does in the gallery

  • Taking care of your collection: proper framing, documenting, appraising

Seminars consist of four Saturday meetings, each lasting from 10:30am to 3pm. The seminar is limited to 20 participants, and the fee is $600.
